St Mary's & St Alban's Catholic Church – Halifax
There has been a long tradition of singing at St. Mary’s Church. The current choir began in 1988 under the baton of Mr.T. G. Walker (Gordon) and taken over in 2006 by Mr. T. Devine the current organist. The choir plays an important part in the weekly celebration of the Mass singing a variety of Mass settings, motets and religious songs in different styles from plainsong to modern settings. At Christmas and Easter the choir plays an important role enhancing the realisation of the religious services.
The choir though small in number sing to a good standard in unison, two part and the more familiar four-part S.A.T.B. Anyone who enjoys singing is welcome to join us at rehearsals on Wednesday evenings starting at 6.30 and lasting approximately 40 minutes. The quality of your voice is not important and no previous experience is necessary (we can work miracles!).
The Parish Ladies Guild (PLG) is a Parish social group. All ladies of the Parish are eligible for membership and new members are always welcome. The Guild meets monthly, on the second Thursday of the month starting at 7:00p.m. in St Alban’s Parish Room.
We arrange and enjoy social activities and events for members throughout the year and the annual membership subscriptions (currently £12) go towards meeting the cost of these activities and events. In addition we arrange a variety of social events for the Parish Community including some fund-raising events for the Parish.

We have a vibrant SVP conference in the parish.
The St Vincent de Paul Society, with 10,000 members across England and Wales, befriends and gives practical help to the lonely and those in need.
The parish generously supports our work through donations and contributing to fundraising events but we are always on the lookout for new members as it means we can help more people.
We meet every three weeks to discuss work done, and work to do – all over a cuppa and biscuits.
Each meeting begins and closes with prayer.
Any time that you can offer would be greatly appreciated – no matter how small.
It will be even more appreciated by those who will benefit from your generosity of spirit in putting the teachings of Our Lord into practice.
So, please consider becoming a member of St Mary’s & St Alban’s SVP – you’ll be made more than welcome.
